Alleged Scheme Uncovered
Authorities in New South Wales reported that the couple was caught using a small hidden camera, concealed on Israilova’s Mickey Mouse T-shirt, to observe and manipulate card games at a Sydney casino. The hidden camera was paired with magnetized probes and a mirror attachment allegedly intended to aid in the manipulation of the games.
Key to their operation were earpieces that reportedly allowed them to receive real-time instructions on when to place bets, further enhancing their chances of winning.
Casino Staff Alerted
Casino employees became suspicious of the couple after they frequently visited the establishment following their arrival from Kazakhstan in October. The couple applied for casino membership on the same day they arrived and began accumulating their winnings. Their betting patterns raised red flags that led to staff closely monitoring their activities.
On a recent visit, staff noticed the alleged cheating devices in action, prompting them to alert law enforcement.
Legal Proceedings
Following their arrest, both suspects appeared in court, where they were denied bail. Israilova is scheduled to return to court in February, while Israilov is set for a court date on December 11.
Context & Previous Events
The couple’s arrival in Sydney coincided with their application for casino membership. Since October, they reportedly made multiple visits to the Crown casino, winning substantial amounts, which eventually led to the suspicions of the casino staff. New South Wales Police confirmed that no other suspects are currently being sought in connection with the alleged fraud.
